There is no doubting the fact that stainless steel is among the most important components of the modern world. With around 150 grades available in a variety of strengths, stainless steel is an element that mankind has mastered!
Wondering where exactly is it used besides those common Swiss knives? As it happens, there are several applications of stainless steel today. Here are five of the most common ones.

Construction of Infrastructure
One of the greatest applications of stainless steel is in the construction industry. The reason why it is such an important component of the industry is that it is highly resistant to corrosion. Furthermore, stainless steel tends to be very flexible. Externally, builders require stainless steel for cladding. You can also find it being used indoors in areas like countertops, handrails, etc. Companies like Action Stainless & Alloys have mastered the composition of stainless steel, offering the exact amount of strength you need for your project.

Medical Applications
Stainless steel is known for its wide range of applications in different industries. In the medical industry, it is used in the composition of pretty much all the medical devices. The reason why almost every medical device is composed of stainless steel is that it keeps patients safe from potential infections which could result from a rusty material. The antibacterial properties of stainless steel and its high resistance to heat are also among the key reasons why it is commonly used for medical applications. In the medical industry, grade 304 stainless steel is most commonly used.

Power Generation Industry
Stainless steel is frequently used in the power generation industry because of its core characteristic of combating corrosion at high temperatures. It is also used in fossil-fueled plants due to its resistance to oxidation. One of the most common forms of this steel used in the power generation industry is the Nickel alloys. Among several other uses in this industry, nickel alloys are also used in desulfurization units of flue gas.

Food Storage
Stainless steel containers are commonly used in the food industry to store food. There are different grades of stainless steel. Grade 304 is used in regular circumstances while 316 is utilized for harsher environments like during the packaging of ice cream. There are many reasons why stainless steel containers are ideal for the storage of food. Among the most common reasons, however, is that it allows for a simpler cleaning process. Furthermore, it does not affect the taste of the food packed inside it, offering the optimal storage environment without altering the taste!

Automotive Industry
Stainless steel has not always been used in the automotive industry. It was only when Ford decided to break the ice by using stainless steel in one of its concept cars back in 1930. In the modern-day automotive industry, the applications of stainless steel range from exhaust systems and grills to a wide range of structural components.
