Stainless steel is everywhere - we see it in everything from kitchen appliances to automotive parts, aircraft, and medical equipment.
Stainless steel has a unique collection of properties that many metals do not have on their own, making it an invaluable resource to the modern world. Not only is it incredibly strong, but it is corrosion-resistant and easy to sterilize as well. These two key properties alone give stainless steel the versatility to benefit us in a variety of important applications.
- Medical Equipment
Because of its ability to be sterilized easily and exceptional corrosion resistance, stainless steel plays a key role in modern medical equipment. It is the primary material for surgical and dental instruments, surgical tables, and larger equipment such as MRI scanners. Stainless steel is also the best material for surgical implants such as replacement joints, pins and plates.
- Architecture and Construction
Stainless steel is both incredibly strong and flexible, making it a great material for construction! It gives structures a great modern look while also being easy to maintain due to their corrosion-resistance.
- Food and Catering
Food and catering applications benefit from stainless steel for many of the same reasons that medical equipment does. On top of easy cleaning, stainless steel makes for great, sharp knives and is able to withstand high heat for cooking.
- High-pressure Applications
Similar to how its strength makes stainless steel great for construction, it also allows it to withstand high pressure and temperatures. This makes stainless steel a great choice for applications that require high pressure such as energy systems such as power plants.
- Aircrafts and Aerospace
Aircraft need to withstand a wide variety of environmental situations such as wide temperature ranges, precipitation, and elevation pressures. Stainless steel's properties allow it to tackle all these problems with ease, making it the most important material for aircraft and aerospace applications.
