Action Stainless provides a wide variety of stainless steel and alloy products.  From sheets to plates to bars, 304 to 316 grades, we have what you need when it comes to stock and processed materials. Flat bar is one of our products that can be customized in a variety of ways to suit your needs.

There are three commonly referred to types of flat bars:

Edged Flat Bar – Also known as sheared and edged or sheared flat bar, this is the most common form of flat bar.  Sheared flat bar is made by cutting processed stainless steel plates to the required size.  It is then flattened and straightened and the edges are milled.  The sides that were cut will have a slightly different finish than the rest of the bar, as will the edges.

True Bar – Most of what we carry is self-explanatory, but that’s not the case with true bar.  Also known as true flat bar or Heated Rolled Annealed and Picked (HRAP), this product is similar in shape to edged flat bar, but the process by which it is obtained in different.  For true bar, the steel is rolled on the thickness and width after being sheared from the plate.   He result is an identical finish on all sides and closer tolerance than that of a sheared flat bar.

Gauer bar – Frequently called Gauered bar, this refers to flat bar that is passed through a machine called a Gauer.  Gauering straightens bar, treats the corners, and deburrs edges.

When you are looking for flat bar for structural shapes, mechanical or industrial applications, call Action Stainless.  We offer edged flat bar, true bar, and gauer bar, as well as other processing options.  Action Stainless has the knowledge and the resources to deliver.
